Endoscopy
St Luke provides a variety of endoscopic procedures. Endoscopy allows for the examination of body organs or cavities for aid in diagnosing, treatment and documentation of abnormalities. These procedures are typically done on an outpatient basis requiring a short stay at the hospital lasting anywhere from 2 - 8 hours. Sedation is given to reduce discomfort during the procedure. These procedures have little to no postoperative recuperation time and allow a rapid return to normal life-style.Types of Endoscopic Procedures offered at St. Luke Hospital include:
Bronchoscopy - visualization of the trachea, bronchi and lungs
Colonoscopy - visualization of colon from rectum to the ileocecal valve
Cystoscopy - visualization of the lower urinary tract, including the urethra, bladder and ureteral openings
Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) - visualization of the esophagus, stomach and proximal duodenum
Laryngoscopy - visualization of the interior of the larynx
